About the job
As a Sr. Sales Manager for the Health and Life Sciences Division (HLS) you will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of SAS's strategic corporate and business unit objectives through the implementation of sales and marketing strategy within a defined region or industry.
As a Sr. Sales Manager, you will:
- Be responsible for achievement of total software revenue target and management business objectives (MBOs)
- Plan and implement growth plans for software, consulting services, and education services.
- Direct management of sales and sales support activities for staff members to implement growth plans and sales activities.
- Develop and implement marketing, sales and business development plans to exceed target levels.
- Generate new business through strategic-based selling and managing relationships with key customers.
- Assign appropriate sales goals and assignments to sales staff; determines optimal utilization of staff and resources to achieve sales goals.
- Be responsible for communication with sales management team to coordinate account strategies.
- Be responsible for hiring, directing and evaluating staff.
- Work in conjunction with the Strategic Pricing Group to negotiate contracts and bids.
- Formulate business plans to support the business development process.
- Determine equitable sales assignments.
- Be responsible for timely and accurate forecasting (PTG) of software, consulting services, and education services.
- Generate new business through strategic-based selling and managing relationship with key customers, specifically at the executive level.
- Articulate to clients the business value of adopting a SAS solution, aligns pricing and negotiations towards enterprise wide solutions and impact.
- Analyze sales statistics for trends and summarizes for senior leadership.
- Accurately forecasts new and renewal sales on a monthly and quarterly basis
Required qualifications:
- Typically requires twelve years of experience in software sales, including five years in a leadership role, coordinating and/or supervising technical projects within the technology industry and two years in a formal management role. Demonstrated experience in successfully achieving a sales target.
- Demonstrated proven record of complex solution selling.
- Demonstrated supervision skills in a sales organization.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage, negotiate, and close multiple complex sales opportunities.
- Demonstrated understanding of strategic sales techniques and principles, specifically in the hardware and software industry, as well as selling to Fortune 500 companies and/or large governmental institutions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the life sciences industry.
- Strong leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and oral communication skills; demonstrated project leadership skills.
- Ability to work and learn independently; demonstrated ability to interact productively with all levels of staff.
- Ability to travel.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered in place of the requirements above.

- Motivating the Sales Team: Continuously raising expectations of team performance; motivating and supporting team efforts to achieve goals while upholding organizational values and standards; tracking progress toward goals.
- C ustomer Centricity: Prioritizes customer needs and delivers tailored solutions that enhance satisfaction and loyalty.
- R elationship Building: Cultivates strong, trust-based relationships with clients and stakeholders to foster long-term partnerships.
- S elf Motivation: Demonstrates initiative and drive to exceed goals independently in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
