Description
Minimum qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of experience in digital signal processing, communication theory, or algorithm development.
- Experience working on enterprise-class systems for cloud infrastructure.
- Experience in the architecture, design, and implementation of algorithms for communication systems, including FEC or modulation techniques.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience defining multi-generational silicon roadmaps and designing high-speed optical communication transceivers.
- Exceptional programming and architectural modeling skills in MATLAB, Python, or C , with the ability to translate profound theoretical concepts into actionable engineering deliverables.
- Globally recognized luminary status in the theory and practical implementation of advanced FEC codes (e.g., LDPC, Staircase, Polar codes) and next-generation modulation formats.
- A distinguished publication record in conferences or journals, keynote speaking engagements, or active leadership roles in international standards bodies (e.g., IEEE, OIF).
About the job
As a Principal Engineer for System DSP Architecture, you will serve as a visionary technical lead, defining the overarching architecture and strategic roadmap for the core algorithms that power Google's global data center infrastructure. You will leverage your expertise in communication theory, Forward Error Correction (FEC), and advanced modulation to pioneer entirely new technological paradigms, solving the most intractable problems in high-speed optical communication and redefining the fundamental limits of speed, efficiency, and scale.
You will not only help dictate the long-term technical direction for the entire company's networking and silicon efforts, but also represent the organization at an industry level. You will advise executive leadership, forge alignment across hardware, software, and product areas, and mentor the next generation of senior technical leaders, shaping the engineering culture across the organization.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $275,000-$383,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Define and dictate the overarching architecture, design, and implementation of revolutionary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms. Anticipate and shape future industry trends in optical communication systems.
- Drive the invention and rigorous analysis of paradigm-shifting FEC and modulation schemes, optimizing performance, power, and complexity tradeoffs to establish entirely new industry standards.
- Lead the development of highly advanced, cross-domain system-level models (using MATLAB, Python, C , or custom internal tools) to simulate, validate, and prove the feasibility of theoretical architectures before they are adopted company-wide.
- Forge cross-functional consensus spanning logic design, verification, software, hardware, and product teams to ensure the successful realization of complex algorithms in custom, high-volume silicon.
- Serve as a premier technical mentor for engineers. Foster a culture of scientific inquiry, relentless innovation, and uncompromising technical excellence across multiple global engineering organizations.
