Minimum qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of software engineering experience.
- 8 years of experiece leading teams.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Experience with global, age-related regulatory frameworks.
- Experience leading highly complex, cross-functional engineering projects and managing distributed teams (direct and indirect) across large organizations.
- Strong background in AI/ML, specifically in developing, deploying, and scaling classifiers.
- A track record of driving clarity around goals, outcomes, and timelines across multiple departments while advocating for a culture of engineering excellence and mentorship.
About the job
As the Principal Software Engineer for Age, you will drive technical excellence across critical systems to ensure Google products meet global, age-related regulatory requirements.
You will help design a multi-year engineering roadmap that balances short- and long-term investments, ensuring Google remains well-positioned to serve users of all ages. This role requires navigating a surge in high-priority mandates, which includes architecting cross-domain minor protections, managing device-to-cloud boundaries, and automating technical compliance amid accelerating global regulations.
The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google's flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google's products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $307000 - $428000 (USD) 30% bonus target equity benefits

Responsibilities
- Lead the technical analysis and extension of systems across various product and infrastructure teams. Identify opportunities for tighter integration and establish clear, "well-lit paths" for age-related compliance.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders across the organization to build consensus on age-verification and signal-sharing roadmaps.
- Work closely with partner teams across Google to ensure seamless integration of age signals and verification frameworks into existing product architectures.
- Drive high-priority age strategy projects by collaborating with engineering directors, cross-functional leaders, and principal technical stakeholders.
