Description
Minimum qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience working in mechanical design in a technical environment, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working with vacuum/cryogenic systems.
- Experience with electronic, RF or cryogenic materials and properties.
- Experience in machining, fabrication and additive manufacturing techniques.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)/Product Data Management (PDM) software.
- Proficiency in solid modeling with Onshape.
- Proficiency in creating 2D drawings and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
About the job
As a member of the Quantum Platforms Engineering team, the Mechanical Systems Engineer will create new complex hardware and carry it through the design, prototyping, and integration phases of development. This role requires an individual who can manage multiple complex projects in various phases of development in parallel, as well as coordinate with multiple internal and external vendors during manufacturing.
The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$181,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Partner with research scientists, hardware engineers, and technicians define and drive design requirements for new components or tools.
- Create manufacturable designs and drawings derived from design requirements using Onshape, identifying and mitigating design risks early in the process.
- Maintain version controlled assemblies, parts, drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs) and related documentation for internal and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) components.
- Lead the development of assembly procedures and provide technical guidance to team members on advanced Onshape modeling and integration techniques.
- Drive technical solutions by researching materials and manufacturing processes (e.g., cryogenic, vacuum, or Radio Frequency (RF) properties) to meet project goals.
